Ondo State Energy Lawyer On Trial For Document Forgery

Energy lawyer, Mr. Olukayode Enitan, is on trial in Akure Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly forging financial records of Owena Oil and Gas Limited.
Enitan has been charged with eight counts of false declaration, falsification, forgery and altering official statements at the Corporate Affairs Commission concerning Owena Oil and Gas Limited.
Ondo State Government has a 30% interest in the private oil and gas company.
A source told SaharaReporters Enitan is said to have deprived proceeds, profits and dividends from the company.
In Court, the accused counsel, Mr. Kemi Phinero objected to the charges and requested bail.
Prosecuting police counsel, Barrister Ajiboye objected to bail application saying the accused may not show up for his trial because of the gravity of his alleged offense. SaharaReporters were told in a previous case in Abuja, Enitan had jumped bail.
The Magistrate Johnson Adelegan however granted Enitan bail with the sum of N20m with two sureties who must be legal practitioners and must demonstrate records.
The trial follows a police investigation that found Mr. Enitan, along with four others to include Samuel Kolajo and Kole Oluwajana had carried out irregular dealing over shares to the Ondo State Government.
If found guilty offenses are punishable under section 516 of the criminal code cap 37 Vol 1 Laws of Ondo state of Nigeria 2006.
