Church Of England To Bless Gay Couples

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York yesterday published the Report of the House of Bishops Working Group on Human Sexuality.
And according to it, gay couples should be allowed to have their relationships blessed in church.
DailyMail reports that the report, written by former civil servant Sir Joseph Pilling and a team of senior churchmen and women, was published seven months after the Church first indicated it is looking at ‘accommodations’ for same-sex couples and four months after the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, told Church leaders that ‘we must accept there is a revolution in the area of sexuality.’
It signals an end to the Church’s longstanding insistence that gay relationships are sinful and less worthy than heterosexual marriage.
And may now open the way for a reversal of the CofE’s opposition to same-sex marriage and the eventual appointment of actively homosexual priests and bishops.
Archbishop Welby said yesterday that bishops will now ‘consider the report and decide how such a process might best be shaped.’

Saheed Balogun Drags ExWife Fathia To Court Over Her Refusal To Drop His Name

Nollywood actor Saheed Balogun has reportedly dragged his ex-wife Fathia Balogun to court over her refusal to stop bearing his last name, years after their marriage ended.
According to Punch, Saheed Balogun had once said in an interview that he would stop her Fathia Balogun, from using his name when he was ready, saying:
“She is my ex. As for my name that she is still answering, the deed will be done soon. The Nigerian law says that after three or four years, you can do something about it. If somebody wants to keep my name, what of the new person coming in? This has nothing to do with grudges.”
And now, it seems Saheed is ready to do something about his threat.
Fathia on the other hand is insisting that nobody could stop her from using her name.
Fathia had said last year in an interview:
“I laugh, my name is Fathia Balogun and it’s going to remain Balogun; nobody can ever change that and nobody can stop me from answering that name.”
When Saturday Beats contacted Saheed and Fathia to confirm they are in court, both refused to talk about it.

Arewa Consultative Forum Distances Northerners From Jonathan’s 2015 Bribery Moves

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has declared that Northerners must be counted out of an alleged plot to bribe prominent Northerners in order to weaken opposition to President Goodluck Jonathan’s bid for re-election in 2015.
The ACF stated that it had widely consulted prominent Northern political figures, adding that they all denied being part of scheme to accept cash from Mr. Jonathan in order to back his 2015 presidential re-election bid.
In a statement sent to SaharaReporters and signed by its chairman, Aliko Mohammed, the ACF said: “The attention of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has been drawn to stories circulating in the media lately suggesting that some people said to be working for the Presidency are going about with a long list of names of Northern leaders they wish to induce in order that they will support the President’s re-election in 2015. The so-called list which we have seen does indeed contain names of some of the most respected people in Northern Nigeria.”
But the Forum absolved the Northerners on the list. “We have however made enquires within the government and have spoken with many of the people whose names are on the list and they confirmed to us that they know nothing whatsoever about it. No one has met them nor are they are interested in meeting any one on the issue,” the group stated.
The ACF continued: “Those seeking or advising the President to offer inducement in exchange for support are clearly taking the matter of the President’s re-election away from performance in office to something else. If that is the case, they will be well advised to leave Northern leaders out of it.”

President Jonathan Intervened To Secure My Release From Beninoise Gendarmes, Says Asari Dokubo

The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, who was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic during the week, has confirmed that President Goodluck Jonathan intervened on his behalf to secure his release as originally reported by SaharaReporters.
Mr. Dokubo arrived Abuja on Friday night and told reporters, and some of his supporters that he arrest was as a result of his purported links with Boko Haram, an Islamist militant group based in Northern Nigeria.
Alhaji Dokubo denied reports stating that a Presidential jet was sent to bring him back to Nigeria after his release. He further claimed that his ordeal was in connection with his support for the re-election bid of President Jonathan in 2015.

Why I Denied My Baby Before Now – Ice Prince

Ice Prince welcomed a baby boy last year with a 20-year old undergraduate student. Soon after she put to bed and the news went out, Ice Prince denied ever impregnating her, and said it to whoever cared to listen. He has however explained his reasons for doing that in this new interview with showbizplus, because he now flaunts the boy and also brought him on stage at his just concluded FOZ concert.
You initially denied having a baby?
It was complicated back then, I didn’t really know what was happening and I wasn’t sure of certain things. So the best I had to do then was denying it and sort out things first. Now I know he is my child and I have done everything as a father ever since.
What is the relationship like with his mother?
I speak with her often and it is usually about the baby. That is all for now.
Have you started thinking about marriage?
No, I’m fully focused on my music.

MUST READ: Peter Okoye Finally Reacts To Allegation That His Family Is Against His Marriage To Lola

Peter Okoye in a new interview with Encomium has denied the stories that his family members were not in support of his marriage to wife Lola.
Or that that was the reason his elder brother Jude didn’t attend his wedding.
In the chat, Peter said:
  • Is there any iota of truth in the tale that your family didn’t support the wedding?
That is very far from being the truth. I saw some of those reports and was full of laughter. Everybody is just laughing because the reports are like comedy to us. Honestly,
there is no iota of truth in the rumour. But it’s one of the prices you pay as a celebrity, so I remain focused.
  • How would you describe your wife?
Honestly, she is a wonderful woman. She has virtually all the qualities that every man would want in his ideal woman. She’s caring, loving, God-fearing, hard working – just name it, that’s my wife for you.
  • What are the sterling qualities that endeared her to your heart?
I just said that now. No man will not want to spend the rest of his life with a woman that possesses the qualities I mentioned.
  • Why was the wedding delayed till now despite you having all it takes to be a husband?
The truth is that we have always known that the wedding will come up. We just didn’t want to rush things unnecessarily. We waited for the right time.
  • Entertainers are not used to keeping one woman, how is your own case going to be different?
Entertainers don’t keep one woman? I don’t think so.

Crisis Brews In OAU as Academic Staff Protest Board’s Imposition Of “HND Holder” As Acting Director

By Saharareporters, New York
Members of the academic staff of the National Center for Technology Management (NACETEM), a research institute located on the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University, have decried the forceful imposition of a holder of the Higher National Diploma as the acting director general.
The staff members questioned the board’s appointment of Yusuf Abdullah Muhammad as the acting Director General/CEO after the exit of the last DG, Willie Siyanbola. The protesting staff expressed dismay over the appointment of Mr. Muhammad, whom they described as having no qualification in research or technology, adding that such qualification ought to be requisite.
In a solidarity press conference, the Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI) called on the Federal Government to intervene by reversing the appointment in order to save the institution from crisis. The union threatened a series protests at OAU and outside if the government failed to intervene.
“NACETEM is an agency that provides critical knowledge support in the area of science, technology and innovation (STI) management. The agency’s activities span human capacity building, policy research and consultancy services in STI management,” the union said. It criticized the imposition of a DG with no background in either technology administration or in research.
The union admitted that Mr. Muhammad is the oldest staff after the former DG, but insisted that it was wrong to use seniority as the criterion in appointing the institute’s leader.
The union’s statement added: “The Board, in its own wisdom, has nominated Mr. Yusuf Abdullah Muhammad, an administrator and a HND holder in accountancy, to superintend over a research institute that has at least 10 PhD holders and over 30 Masters Degree holders in its fold. Being the most senior in terms of rank, the officer ordinarily would have been made to act. But the peculiarity of the agency’s mandate requires a seasoned academic which the agency has in large supply.”
The union condemned the appointment of “an incompetent and unacceptable headship for NACETEM by the governing board.”
The union accused the agency’s new board of modifying its statutes in order to clear the way for the appointment of the new acting director, adding that Mr. Muhammad played a role in doctoring the statutes.
“To our surprise, an abridged version of the draft enabling law, sponsored solely by Mr. Yusuf Abdullah Muhammad, was considered by this same governing board at its special board meeting held in Abuja on 20th November, 2013. We [would] like to draw your attention to the fact that major elements of the initial draft enabling law which had been considered by various offices and the management team of NACETEM have been put aside,” the statement asserted.
ASURI alleged that Mr. Muhammad had introduced some changes into the laws to facilitate his eventual appointment as NACETEM’s substantive DG. The union stated that some of the irregularities that arose from changes made by Mr. Muhammad include composition of the governing board, the requirements for the position of the DG/CEO, the functions and mandates of the agency, and the removal of the power of the agency to award postgraduate certificates and degrees.
According to the union, the “abridged enabling law” reportedly made by Mr. Muhammad also ceded some powers and sole responsibility of the DG/CEO to the board. The ceded powers include the responsibility to set up guidelines, regulate and manage NACETEM funds, ratify appointments as well as termination and dismissal of junior staff of the agency.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source at the institution alleged that Mr. Muhammad’s appointment was part of a strategy by a former administrator to cover up some mismanagement and misdeeds at the agency.
NACETEM staff charged that the board, in a desperate move to push through Mr. Muhammad’s appointment before its ratification, his name was hurriedly used in a national daily newspaper as the acting DG.
“It was also observed with utmost surprise that a publication on page 34 of the Vanguardof Monday, 25th November, 2013 portrayed Mr. Yusuf Muhammad as the new Acting Director-General of the agency when there [was] no approval to that effect. In fact, what the paper published as an appointment was merely a proposal by the governing board, which was not acceptable to ASURI and a host of other members of staff. This is seen as a collective insult on the psyche of the agency and a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the agency which has been built up over the years,” the protesting staff stated.
In a letter to Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Ms. Omobola Johnson, who also oversees the Ministry of Science and Technology, the union demanded that a candidate with a PhD in Technology Management, Sciences, Engineering or Social Sciences be appointed as the new acting Director-General in order to avert a crisis.
The statement also called for a new board composed of technocrats and at least a south westerner. The union gave a two-day ultimatum for their demands to be met.

ASUU Dismisses Fg’s Threat To Sack Lecturers

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said the Federal Government’s December 4 ultimatum issued to universities teachers to return to the classrooms is a clear indication that the government is not committed to implementing any of the resolutions it reached with the union.
While reacting to the threat of the Federal Government to sack the lecturers if they fail to call off their five-month strike by Wednesday nest week, ASUU National Treasurer, Dr. Ademola Aremu, said the union was shocked that the government could have such plan when there was a shortfall of 60,000 lecturers in Nigerian universities, owing to the government’s failure to employ enough teachers.

He added that the threat would not hinder the union’s determination to ensure that Nigerian universities were well funded.
He said, “It is a pity if the Federal Government is not willing to perfect the resolutions reached with the union. This is why we find it difficult to trust our leaders by their words. How can someone be threatening to sack lecturers when universities are already short-staffed by almost 60,000? We are not in a military era. The military tried it and failed. This one will fail again. They can re-open the schools. ASUU did not shut the universities; it was the school management that ordered the students to go back home.”
ASUU added that the FG was wasting the time of Nigerians and youths in the country by failing to perfect the resolutions so that classes could resume in the schools.
Making reference to the failure of the government to honour the agreements it entered with resident doctors and health workers after they suspended their strikes, the union said it had reasons to be wary of the government, adding that the threat was an insult to the sensibilities of Nigerians who were waiting for the government for a positive reaction.
“With the latest action, the government has shown that it is not committed to all it has been saying. We are saying that since we agreed at the meeting that the sum of N200bn is for 2012 and 2013
revitalization, the government should deposit same in the Central Bank of Nigerian. We are already in November and December is around the corner. If they don’t do that now, when do they want to do it?” Aremu said.

Vin Diesel, Paul Walker not buddies in real life

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in The Fast & The Furious

Don't be fooled by Paul Walker and Vin Diesel's movie friendship in the Fast & Furious films - it's all just for show.
Walker reveals he and his co-star are not pals and they often annoy one another.
He tells WENN, "Vin and I are so east coast-meets-west coast, and we have different approaches to life. We found a respect for one another but we were such opposite ends of the spectrum. The reason why it's worked is because we are so different.
"I don't know if we necessarily found a stride together because there are certain days I still want to crack him in the head! But he looks at me and there are days he wants to crack me in the head too. Then there are times he'll look at me and say, 'Man, I wish I could be more like you,' and I'm like, 'F**ker, I wish I could be more like you!'"
But Walker does get along with his other castmates in the film franchise, adding, "Tyrese (Gibson) is just like a big kid. I think I'm Peter Pan but he's Peter Pan on crack! And Chris (Bridges)... He's one of the coolest people I ever knew. He comes from a really solid family. He's an old soul and wise
beyond his years."As for the girls, I legitimately love Jordana (Brewster). We met when we were little kids hanging out on the first one (Fast & the Furious) when she was 17 years old. Michelle (Rodriguez) and I, we've been through it all. Michelle's like the most original person on the planet. She's so straight up, uncensored all the time. Be ready. I love her for that."

Creation of Ijebu State not impossible

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Thursday assured those agitating for the creation of additional states in the country that the National Assembly would assist them to realise their dreams.
But he said to get the support of the National Assembly, they must comply with all the requirements as stipulated in the constitution.
Ekweremadu said this when he received the Coordinator of  Ijebu State Movement,  Otunba Timothy Adebanjo, who led a delegation of prominent traditional rulers and elder statesmen from Ijebu land, to re-submit their amended request for the creation of Ijebu State.
Ijebuland is currently a major part of Ogun State.
The Deputy Senate President commended the delegation for taking  positive step towards the realisation of their dream for the creation of Ijebu State and assured them that as Chairman, Ad Hoc Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, he would ensure a successful accomplishment of the task.
He said, “Creation of new states in a democracy though appears rather difficult,  is not impossible. We will consider necessary constitutional means to ensure that Nigerians realise their dreams through a fair and democratic process.”
Adebanjo, after presenting the document to the senate leadership,  said the agitation for the creation of Ijebu State had the blessing of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, other traditional rulers, chiefs and entire Ijebu people covering six local government areas of Ogun State.

Governor Babatunde Fashola Says Oduah’s Armoured Cars Will Buy 51 Police Patrol Vehicles

Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has said that the two armoured cars bought at the cost of N255 million for the Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Oduah, will purchase 51 patrol vehicles for the Nigerian Police.
The governor said this at the 7th annual Town Hall Meeting on Security, themed: ‘Sustaining Local Responding To Rising National Security Challenges,’ held at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
“It is sad to know that the Federal Government that allocate three patrol vehicles for one state police command of 370, 000 police men, is unable to resolve how N255 million was used to purchase 2 saloon vehicles for one officer. It is a very grave irony.
“The cost of average vehicle needed to patrol the state is just N5 million. And with such fund, we will have put at least 51 patrol vehicles on the road, patrolling the streets of Lagos.”

“In spite of all this, they resist the idea of a state police. The money from the fund was in the last one year used to provide vehicles for the Nigerian Prison Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, National Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC and indeed the airport wing of the Nigerian police, is funded from this money. And it is the same aviation ministry that manage the airport that we had this very odious car scandal of N255 million.”

The governor noted that the upshot of central Government’s failure to confront security has continued for the past seven years.
“The residents of Lagos have borne the burden of that neglect, and there is no indication that anything will change soon, in spite of endless reform deliberation and proposals.”
On the crime rate in the state, Fashola said “Our crime data base now has record content of 92, 488 which helps us to keep track of all those who have been arrested, prosecuted, jailed or have any contact with the criminal justice system.”
He added that the state is preparing for a future of crime prevention, saying “it will be technologically driven, scientifically grounded and result assured
