The Smoking Of Weed In My Video Was To Upset People – Jesse Jags

Jesse Jags has spoken again. In this new interview with Pm News, Mr. Jags says the smoking of weed in his redemptionsong video was intentional and was meant to offend people’s thinking. He said a lot about marijuana…. In your Redemption Song’s video, you are seen puffing out thick smoke from a hand rolled wrap of weed suspected to marijuana. What message are you trying to pass across? For me, that scene was just a way of pushing people’s perception about some certain things. It was just about making some people feel uncomfortable. People sing a lot about love but can they love as much as an armed robber? Segregation leads us nowhere so the weed was just to offend people’s thinking. Don’t you think people will see it as promotion of weed? I do not see anything wrong with weed; just the same way I do not see anything wrong with money or women. I just think anything done in excess is bad. However, if I have never married before, I cannot say anything about marriage whether it is right or wrong. It is about someone else’s life. To those who smoke, some condemn the area boys (social miscreants) and see them as smokers, though certain steps and experiences may have led them there. So who am I to judge anyone? If I was born on the streets of Lagos, probably I would have been an area boy too. None of us is better than the other. That is life. Yes, I have spoken about marijuana in my music. However, every other artiste have made allusion to marijuana in more demeaning and derogatory ways than I have. Others have sang ‘Give me the lighter; pass me the ganja’ but my own message is not about that. People should listen to the message in my music not the marijuana. If you really listen to the truth in my music, you will not have a problem with the marijuana in my music. I am not promoting or condemning people who use it but I guess everybody wants to evade the truth that I talk about in my song.

BBA Housemate Elikem Caught Sleeping With Ghanaian’s Footballer Wife

The former Black Stars Striker, Lamptey, has accused 2013 BBA housemate of going to bed with his wife. He reportedly raised the matter and took legal actions against Elikem when he found out that his wife, whom he has been married to for 20 years, was having illicit affairs. Speaking during different interviews he had granted to Tv channels in Ghana, Lamptey insisted he had caught his wife and Elikem in questionable positions in their home a reasonable number of times, and that he was certain the BBA star was in a romantic relationship with his wife Last year Domptey had announced that he was not the biological father of the 3 children his marriage produced, and that he had carried out a DNA test that proved it. Elikem has however denied all the allegations leveled against him, saying there was no way the stories were true. He insists that they are all just idle rumors being tossed around by ‘fools’. The Accra high court has adjourned the case to 22 January, 2013.

To Oppose The Signed Anti-Gay Marriage Bill is To Oppose Democracy – Dr. Peregrino Brimah

The media is awash with passionate, intellectual outputs, decrying Nigeria’s President signing the anti-gay bill into law.
The Senate passed this since December 2011. The bill has been on the President’s desk since May 2013, when the House passed it; he just got to signing it.
Here are some peculiar points to note in this matter.
Timing of the Protest against the Signing
The 13th hour timing is totally off. This bill has been on Nigeria’s Presidents table for months. Some of us have written and expressed our minds in relation to this topic, prior to his signing the bill.
Recently there was an initiation of legislation to punish so-called facebook activists. People responded promptly and prevented legislation moving forward in that case.
If Nigerians seriously opposed this anti-gay bill, we should likewise have moved forward firmly and strongly against the initial stages of it passing the senate and House before it got signed. Protests after the last minute are simply not serious.
These are Anti-Democratic Protests
For those who believe in our western styled democracy, the anti-gay bill got signed into law following due democratic process. Challenging it at the thirteenth hour questions our character and abidance with democratic process.
Nigerians love breaking and disobeying laws. Do we really believe in democracy or do we silently push for authoritarian rule? We voted in lawmakers, they proposed the bill, the house and senate who represent us overwhelmingly voted for the bill, this was passed to the President, who signed in the bill ‘we’ presented as represented by our representatives.
To challenge this bill will be to challenge the entire democratic process and system. I would go for that. I am interested in an entire review of the western democratic model we have adopted. It is however conflicting and disingenuous to pick on single items that are the direct consequence and product of the democratic system ‘we’ believe in, and demand the President single-handedly veto the best results.
Do we likewise wish him veto all majority senate and House choices?
Universal Human Rights?
What is that? Nations choose their rights as best applies to them or as is defined by religions. There is no such thing as universal rights. This is an illusion that usually starts from a 5 man lobby in a westerncountry.
Are there rights for a single woman to marry two men if all consent? Are there rights for limitless polygamy? Are there rights of brothers marrying sisters or fathers daughters?
As odd as these might seem, these are ‘legitimate’ rights of consenting adults so long as religious boundaries and principles are not employed.
Marriage is a religious institution, owned and defined by the religions. It is not a natural or biological one. Incest is religious terminology and not scientific or biological restriction.
Adults can demand rights to incestual relationships. People who do not believe in God are actually demanding such rights.
Therefore rights must be determined by societies in keeping with their cultures and religions and what they can handle.
There is a limit to what Africa can handle and test.
So far, the societal health and herd social implication of long term, prevalent homosexual relationship is just being determined. How this impacts children, heterosexuals, the society at large.
The cost for utilities, etc…The cost of extra, third and fourth orientation bathrooms. Tasking healthcare costs being felt in the western world, secondary to the additional risks of MSM (Male-Sex-Male) anal sex.
Teaching little children new definitions of marriage, banning words like ‘mom’ and ‘dad,’ and the like, as is required and being instituted in true plurisexual societies.
These are complex equations the western world is just figuring out.
We must admit that the signing of this bill was a true dividend of democracy… at its best. I believe opposed Nigerians should respect the law and process of our ‘beloved’ democracy. Or be more honest and challenge democracy itself and the nations that constitute the larger Nigeria if those who wish Jonathan did not sign, desperately wish to have their revered ‘western universal laws,’ enforced in some new western culture nationettes, that reject the more popular African socio-culture.
This is my advice. Democracy did this, not Jonathan.
This is not one case where we can throw jabs at Joe.

Jonathan Jumped 31 Other Generals To Pick Minimah As Chief of Army Staff

To appoint Maj-Gen. Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Minimah as chief of army staff, President Goodluck Jonathan had to skip 31 generals who are his seniors in the Nigerian Army, LEADERSHIP Weekend has learnt. Of these generals, 15 would be retired soon while 16 may be left to work with the new army boss, it was further learnt.
Since the sack of the service chiefs and the immediate appointment of the new ones by President Jonathan during the week, there has been panic in the country’s barracks, as the superiors of the new service chiefs fear that the retirement to be engendered by the development could affect them. Those who have cases against the new service chiefs are hoping to get redress at the National Assembly when they would be screened.

Angry Ezekwesili Challenges Okonjo-Iweala to Account for 'Missing' U.S.$10.8 Billion' Oil Money - PREMIUM TIMES

Former Vice President of the World Bank, Oby Ezekwesili, has taken the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to task over the sloppy manner the government has handled the issue of the 'missing' $49.8billion oil money.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, had, in a memo to President Goodluck Jonathan accused the NNPC of diverting huge oil revenue that should be paid to the federation account.
Mr. Sanusi had alleged that the NNPC systematically diverted more than 76 per cent of revenues realised from crude oil sales between January 2012 and July 2013, paying only 24 per cent of the proceeds from crude oil sales within the period into the federation account.
Later, at the end of a purported reconciliation meeting with the NNPC and other agencies, the CBN governor and Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala claimed the bulk of the money was not missing, but that about $10.8billion was yet to be accounted for.
The NNPC claimed, last week, that the missing $10.8 billion was spent on oil subsidy payments, repairs of vandalized oil pipeline facilities and operational costs.
However, the NNPC's explanation appeared not to have convinced some Nigerians, who feel that the manner the issue was handled by the government left much to be desired.
Mrs. Ezekwesili, who said she was one of such Nigerians dissatisfied with the explanations offered by the NNPC, took to her tweeter handle, @obyezeks, at about 4:44 p.m. Nigerian time, on Wednesday, to express disappointment and frustration at the NNPC's lack of accountability.
The former minister of education, popularly known as 'Madam Due Process' for her consistent insistence on transparency and accountability, in a series of tweets urged Nigerians to stand up and demand accountability over the matter.
She challenged Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala to personally shoulder the responsibility of accounting to Nigerians about the 'missing money, pointing out that "a good place to start would be if the Coo (Coordinating) Minister of Economy can sign off on NNPC's breakdown of the "missing $10Billion".
She said, "Madam Minister, @NOIweala, can we please v (verify?) your signed off breakdown of the "missing $10Billion" that NNPC must account for?," she asked. "It would help raise confidence in the administration if you! @NOIweala took up the accounting for the "missing $$10 Billion".
#PublicPolicy101: Madam Minister @NOIweala can we please v your signed off BREAK DOWN of D "missing $10Billion" that NNPC must ACCOUNT FOR?
-- oby ezekwesili (@obyezeks) January 16, 2014
#PublicPolicy101: Since you @NOIweala will be presenting #Budget2014 BREAK DOWN on the 22nd. Also provide BREAK DOWN OF "missing $10Billion
-- oby ezekwesili (@obyezeks) January 16, 2014
Justifying her demand for Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala to take personal responsibility to render account, Mrs. Ezekwesili noted that "statutorily, the NNPC must render accounts to her, @NOIweala, as our finance minister. If she signs off, we ought to assume all is well."
"... until NNPC realizes that Citizens will not believe their accounting without @NOIweala ... . Signing off the appropriateness and accuracy of those "operational expenditure", they will repeat bad behaviour again", she said.
Pre-empting possible attacks from some Nigerians who might not share her view on her advice to Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala, the former World Bank Vice President noted: "There will of course be some of the typical "chicken that defends Christmas" behaviour by some trollers on my TL (timeline), but you waste your time... .
"Some of the "chicken that defends Christmas" behaviour would even be put up by some of the 54% jobless youths that cannot connect the dots."
She challenged other Nigerians who are worried over the issue to respond to her tweet. "If as a Citizen, you are as vexed as I am at the way the issue of "missing $10Billion" has been handled tweet @ me".
The former minister continued, "Citizens who allow politicians to set the agenda while they just react have themselves to blame for lack of tangible result from governance.
"The day we begin to see tangible results from governance is the day Citizens master agenda setting around the deep challenges of our society.
"Is there yet a detailed breakdown of the "missing" $10Billion that NNPC said it used for "XYZZY & Operational Expenses?".
Apparently drawing the attention of members of the National Assembly to what their role should be in resolving the issue, Mrs. Ezekwesili queried: "Can the NASS gain the confidence of citizens by ending "tales" of this kind where $$10 Billion is so lightly esteemed?"
"Does NNPC know that some African countries sweat to raise $5Million to stay afloat? And here, $10Billion is waved off?"
Mrs. Ezekwesili also took a swipe at the media for not paying sufficient attention to the matter, saying "When citizens and media act unperturbed by the "murky" accounting for the "missing $10Billion, the rest of the world hiss!".
Drawing the attention of the NNPC to her campaign for accountability on the issue, she said: "Hello, NNPC! Here is one Citizen that demands accurate accounting for the "missing" $10Billion. What happened to it? What?"
The handling of the controversy by the government has irked a lot of Nigerians, who feel there are more to the explanations so far given by the parties involved.
For the Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Abdulmumini Jubrin, who was commenting on the issue during a recent television interview last week, the NNPC's explanation on the missing billions is unacceptable.
"For me, NNPC's explanation is an afterthought," Mr. Jubrin said. "If the NNPC knew the $10.8billion was spent on the payment of fuel subsidy and repair of vandalized pipelines, why did they wait for several weeks to tell Nigerians that?"

Chief Justice of Nigeria Should Not Chair NJC, Justice Ayo Salami Recommends

Former President of the Court of Appeal, Ayo Salami

Justice Ayo Salami, a former President of the Court of Appeal, has lamented the tragedy of the Nigerian society where dishonorable people who are not fit to be judges not only enter the system but get to the highest levels of the judiciary.
Towards rectifying the rot in the system, he recommended among others on Wednesday, discontinuing the current system where the Chief Justice of Nigeria is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC).
He also called upon the elite for a rethink in order to avoid the collapse of Nigeria.
Justice Salami, it would be recalled, was suspended from office in 2011 following a public spat with former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Adolphus Kastina-Alu, who was at the time the chairman of the NJC, the body which has responsibility for the appointment and discipline of judges.
He made his remarks during the 10th Gani Fawehinmi Annual lecture in Lagos, during which he drew attention to the prevalence in Nigerian society of the practice of subverting the course of justice for pecuniary or other worldly gains.
“We are all asking for a just and equitable society but until people in position of authority think more of holding to their position at the expense of truth, and people who offer advice do it with the fear of God in their heart, this desire will always elude us,” he advised.
He stressed that the rot in the judicial system is compounded by the fact that Nigerians generally do not want the truth to be told and whoever told the truth is marked out for destruction.
“The members of the bar [tell] sordid tales about high ranking serving or retired heavyweights who act as arranges or couriers of rights who reach out to judges to influence or change the course of justice in certain sensitive cases,” Justice Salami said, adding that members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), who are represented on the Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) hardly stand up for the truth.
In very frank comments using his own experience as an example, he illustrated how endangered justice is in Nigeria.
“In the course of my travail, the NJC set up a Justice I.N. Auta Committee (he was a junior judge or judicial officer to me) to make recommendations on the NJC investigative panel of justice Umoru Abdullahi panel. The recommendations were laughable as they introduced a completely new dimension into the case without any hearing from me (the issue of my judicial misconduct by talking to the press was never raised at the NJC investigative panel). The Auta committee flew above its mandate and said it took judicial notice of the fact that I spoke to the press and thus was making recommendation on this premise. I was never called to appear before the Auta committee. The conclusions of the Justice Auta committee were already predetermined.
“This is the Judge (Justice Auta) who lied on the bench and is now a Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Nigeria,” he observed.
He further noted that the irony of the situation in the Nigerian judiciary is that the same man and some others like him sit as members of the NJC, and wondered where the prospects of the common man for justice lie, with such men at the head of its affairs.
“This is why despite the disposition of the present Chief Justice to rid the judiciary of these corrupt elements (the efforts) are being frustrated.”
With specific reference to the place of the late Fawehinmi in Nigerian history, Justice Salami recalled that a young judicial officer once said if he had been alive and witnessed the Salami travails, he would have gone to court.
Asked Justice Salami, “To which court would he have gone? An intimidated and frightened court? All that is required is a call to the head of the court and it is done. How does one explain the Supreme Court decision in Dankiwaji vs Wammako? In this case the Supreme court invoked the provision of its rule to override an express provision of the constitution which forbids the Supreme Court from  hearing an appeal in election matters to dismiss an appeal that was not pending before it.
“I am aware that the decision of the Supreme Court in the case of Dankiwaji vs Wammako has been a subject of controversy for some time and I will not like to comment upon it but I will state that history and posterity will bring out the truth and eventually unravel what went wrong in the fullness of time,” he said.
He stressed that whatever happens or goes wrong in the judicial system, lawyers, particularly some senior lawyers, are involved. “There are some who have the capacity to influence and intimidate the courts and they do it with relish.”
He expressed the wish that the NBA would have the will and capacity to implement the recommendation of the Okpoko Committee that carried out an independent NBA investigation into the Sokoto case that marked the beginning of his own travail.
“Unfortunately, NBA which had a good report in their hands could not impose sanctions on members of the bar that were indicted therein probably because there are prominent senior lawyers involved. If Gani were alive, he would not have allowed the matter to be swept under the carpet.  Sometimes when it matters, some members of the bar who are representing NBA on the NJC hardly stand up for the truth, not to talk of speaking the truth. These are matters the NBA must tackle; they should not be regarded as “their” problem.
“It is our joint problem because the profession they are damaging to assuage their selfish interest jointly and severally belongs to us all,” he said.
In order to reposition Nigeria’s legal and judicial system, Justice Salami called for restructuring, including eliminating the practice where the Chief Justice of Nigeria is the Chairman of the NJC.
Other suggestions offered by Justice Salami include:
  • Each of the State of the federation should be allowed to have its own court of appeal & Supreme Court to better adjudge on respective disputes and appeal on matters fallen within their legislative competence;
  • Constitutional issues and issues be left to the Federal court of Appeal and the Federal Supreme Court;
  • Federal High court, the state high court and the National Industrial Court should be vested with the same jurisdiction to avoid the cost of litigation and delays arising from contentious issues of jurisdiction;
  • Members of the NJC should not accept executive appointments including briefs from the executives during their tenure; and
He further recommended that n no circumstances should Justices be appointed to the court of appeal and the Supreme Court on grounds of Sharia or customary law.
“Because these people have no knowledge of common law and they have no experience of constitutional law, and in fact, the constitution establishing them said that they should not determine constitutional matters,” he said.  “Then when they come to the Court of Appeal overnight they become constitutional experts, and that's how they have the situation where they say Supreme Court rule overrides constitutional provision.”
He praised Fawehinmi for having done his part in fighting for truth and justice.
“He has left a legacy that his entire family and in fact lovers of truth the world over are proud of.  It is because the truth never dies and Gani Fawehinmi and others like him would be honored forever. The elite must have a rethink if Nigeria is not going to collapse.”

Ondo PDP Chair Said Turkur's Resignation Needed Sacrifice

Ondo State People's Democratic Party Chair, Ebenezer Alabi, said Thursday the resignation of the party's national chairman, Bamanga Turkur will strengthen rather than weaken the party.
Ebenezer Alabi said Tukur’s resignation was a sacrifice needed for the benefit and progress of the party especially now the 2015 election is drawing nearer.
"The resignation," he said, "will lessen aggrieved members who were on a mission the leave the party for opposition ones, and now they will stay and strategize."
Alabi said the decision was a welcome development embraced by ninety percent of party members especially those who attended the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja called by President Goodluck Jonathan.
He added the Party is working on welcoming back loyal members of the party who defected to other parties since their wish the National Chairman should resign has happened.
The State Chairman refused to comment on whether President Jonathan or other party executives had forced the resignation.
He said that the party would pick and inaugurate Tukur’s successor on Monday during its Emergency NEC meeting.
Saharareporters learned the Party National Chairman position have been zoned to the North East area of the country.

Toke Makinwa Weds Maje Ayida Secretly

What a pleasant surprise indeed! Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa and her fitness expert beau Maje Ayida are MARRIED. The couple got married on Wednesday 15th January 2014, after dating on and off for ten years before they had their wedding. Now happy together living as husband and wife. Wishing them all the best, congratulations! Read some of Toke’s tweets from yesterday…

In December 2013, comedienne Princess publicly announced the end of her 7-months marriage. In a new interview with Encomium mag, princess broke her silence on the collapsed marriage and said the press, especially bloggers wanted her marriage to collapse. Excerpts below… There were some allegations that you were oppressing him financially. They cited an example of both of you in a restaurant where you made it obvious to everyone present that you were the one paying for what the two of you had eaten? They were there abi? People can say anything. It doesn’t matter. The truth is the truth. I did not discuss my marriage breakup with anybody except what I just told you. I am a celebrity, the other person is not a celebrity, so what do you expect? Any person can just sit down and start writing what you just told me without even knowing me. If Kanye West was dating a non celebrity and not Kim Kardashian, they will say the same thing. So if I wanted to make the reason public, I would have made it myself. But it is not necessary, marriage is between a couple. We did not take our marriage vow on the street. We took it before God. Me, I am not afraid of man. I am also afraid of God. Anything that happened between God and a couple is sacred. There is no need itemizing the reasons. What is that going to do? Is it going to make the other party happy? Is it going to make us happy? So it is between the person (husband), I and God. Really I dont owe anybody the reason why my marriage broke up but they can sit down and start drawing up reasons for themselves. That is their problem. They have God to answer to. The most authentic news is the one you get from the source. I didn’t want people to be speculating because I was already hearing many rumors, bla bla bla, even when we were still together trying to make it work. They kept on writing what they were not sure of. I remember there were times he would ping to say he see what they wrote again. The press, particularly the so-called bloggers, many of whom are not credible kept on writing things that were not happening at all. That is why I said now that the marriage has crashed, I hope they are now happy. I know few press men who are true to their professional ethics would not be happy with it (breakup) but the other ones that are not true to their professional ethics are the ones writing things that do not exist. But they are not God and cannot be more than God.

Rapper Eva calls out M.I, disses Sasha and Pryse?

Eva Alordiah Controversy sells and it seems like Eva has tapped in that agelong concept. The female rapper some hours ago released a video clip on her YouTube page – spitting (that’s what rappers term as delivering) a 46-bar freestyle. Eva stylishly calls out former Loopy Records affiliate M.I and then proceeds to drop what fans describe as a subliminal message to her fellow female rappers Storm Records ‘First Lady‘ Sasha and Chocolate City‘s Pryse. ‘These other players don’t know sh**, they doing it wrong, what you telling me, They hiding in the shadows of the short black ones, I’m about longevity‘. Eva rhymed. Fans say this line was directed at Pryse. She also rhymed ‘Y’all need to stop with that first lady shit, ain’t nobody got patience for that you feel me, I’m trying to get on my big boss shot, put my name on the map’.  Prominent female rapper Sasha is popularly known as ‘First Lady‘. It is believed Eva threw a jab at her too. Eva has however denied dissing anyone. On Twitter she replied a fan’s question concerning the freestyle saying ‘Pryse is my homie yo.. Never do that‘. Her reps also told our source that the freestyle isn’t a diss to anyone. She made no comment about Sasha on her timeline but it seems like the ‘First Lady’ might have been moved with Eva’s diss. Sasha some hours ago Instagrammed a photo with the caption ‘Nothing I know can break us down….#Recognise #SuperPower‘. She deleted the IG post minutes later.

How Violence Erupted At Ogun APC Event, Eight Shot-PREMIUM TIMES

One of the victims shot at the APC gathering in Ogun State

Six federal lawmakers on Thursday escaped unhurt at Wasimi Market Square, Ewekoro Local Government Area, Ogun State, following a bloody clash between factions of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
A senator representing Ogun Central at the National Assembly, Gbenga Obadara, was billed to hold a meeting with party members at the market square when they were attacked by gun-wielding thugs.
Eight people were reportedly shot including Sunday Akinbode, a police sergeant attached to Mr. Obadara, who was shot in a region close to his private part; Lasisi Bayo; Dapo Soyinka; and Femi Babalola.
All the victims were rushed to Mercy Hospital in Abeokuta where they are currently receiving treatment.
Those at the scene included two senators – Akin Odunsi and Gbenga Obadara; four members of the House of Representatives – Olumide Osoba, Adekunle Adeyemi, Bukola Braimo, and Segun Williams; as well as journalists covering the event.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the incident, Mr. Obadara alleged that the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, was responsible for the attack on him and his supporters.
“I  wanted to have a senatorial meeting to sensitise our members on the coming registration exercise at the centre I built  for the community in Wasimi. We have already applied and the copies of the letters  are with me,” he explained. “But, when I got  to the venue,  the Chairman of  Ewekoro  local government , Dele Soluade, said he wanted to use the place and I left for another place and his thugs still came to attack us.”

Mr. Obadara claimed that Mr. Soluade has said that the order “to deal with the senator” was from above.
“He pointed a gun at me that he will kill me. If  not for God’s grace, I would have been a dead man by now. My orderly was shot and several other people including journalists,” he said.
A member of the House of Representatives, Adekunle Adeyemi, who also escaped death accused the police in the state of complicity.
“We were to have senatorial meeting with Senator Obadara when I discovered  that there were thugs sent after us by Governor Ibikunle Amosun and they started shooting I managed to escape. They came with guns, cutlasses,” Mr. Adeyemi said.
However, the Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government, where the incident happened, Mr. Soluade, has denied knowledge of  the attack, saying that he was in Lagos.
He told PREMIUM TIMES via phone that he had received a call that his local government was in flames. He denied that the Senator had written his office to inform it of the meeting.
“I am not aware that there was going to be any programme. I was told that one of my people in the community was shot; I cannot confirm his name. I am in Lagos. I am coming down now to confirm. He is not my boy; he is one  of my  community people there. Even as the chairman of the local government there, I was not aware that anybody was coming there. Even when I heard it, I  had to call one of my Police that, what is happening there, no invitation, no information,” Mr. Soluade said.
A notable chieftain of the party and serving senator, Adegbenga Kaka, in his reaction, called on the Federal Government and the police high command to investigate the attack.
The State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has also condemned the attack and denied any involvement in it.

Fashola And Politics Of Infrastructure Development By A Concerned Citizen

By A Concerned Citizen
Nigeria is a nation blessed with a lot of human talents in business, politics and science. These brilliant minds are also all over the world making gigantic breakthroughs in their callings. Lagos State, a state with a population hitting 22 million according to the United Nation is also lucky to be blessed by the sterling leadership qualities of Babatunde Raji Fashola, the attorney turned governor of the emerging mega city called Lagos. After over six years at the helm of affairs as the chief security officer of the state, a lot of developmental projects has taken roots in the hitherto development retarded state. New roads and bridges have emerged on the landscape of the state, schools have been renovated and modernized, and housing was another key measure of development occupying the mind of the governor. To say the 50-year-old governor has not changed the image of Lagos would be undeserving and unpatriotic. However, certain observations are singled out in the course of carrying out these monumental developments in the state.

One of the numerous bridges constructed by the state government has received knocks from the affected residents giving the level of chaos and palpable insecurity it has brought to the community. The recently completed Ajao Estate—Ejigbo bridge is the focus of this write up. Ajao Estate had hitherto been noted for its serenity and security; it is also an industrial estate accommodating the factories and administrative offices of multi billion naira businesses of tax paying companies like Chivita, the award winning juice manufacturing conglomerate, among others. Some years ago during the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as governor of the state, the then commissioner for works now the governor of another southwest state, Rauf Aregbesola had commenced planning the erection of bridge linking Ejigbo and Ajao Estate in order to ease the perennial traffic congestions that crippled productivity due to man hour loss associated with traffic delays along Ikotun Isolo road; unfortunately the landlords associations of Ajao Estate welcomed the idea but stated categorically that bringing an access bridge within the estate will not only break the serenity of the community, it will also bring about massive insecurity within the estate. Arguments for and against were put forth and reasons prevailed, hence the state government shelved the idea of erecting the bridge linking the estate to airport road en route Oshodi and Badagry expressway.

Fast forward to 2013, governor Fashola allegedly approved the contract of constructing the bridge even without inspecting the site and the environment personally for the proposed construction. Now the bridge has been completed and is already being used by motorists and commuters even without the usual fanfare commissioning usually associated with such infrastructure development by Nigerian politicians. Up till the time of writing, the governor has not deemed it fit to come physically and inspect the bridge constructed by the Chinese firm, CCECC. Meanwhile, the bridge has brought untold traffic hardship and insecurity to the community; tenants and property owners have started leaving the estate in droves given the unexpected buzz of motorists and commuters plying the bridges, and no thanks to the narrow roads exclusively created within the estate for the use of residents before this untoward hardship.

Pleas to the government ab initio not to sight the bridge within have fallen on deaf ears even when alternative route for the bridge was advised. Post-completion, the estate and its warren roads are now subjected to unanticipated use by the planning of the estate. Meanwhile, rumor mills acknowledged that the state government had owned up making mistakes with the sighting of the bridge along the estate. However, nothing is being done to ease the hardship caused by commercial buses(Danfo) and tricyclists, i.e. Marwa who daily throng the new road allegedly meant for only private cars. Another rumor mill has it that the famed MC Oluomo, a chieftain of the notorious NURTW gangs has brought his men to start collecting dues from commercial bus and tricycle operators operating along the bridge; this is expected to compound the issues at stake as payments made commercial motorists give them confidence to use the road/bridge against regulation by the state government.

It is a known fact that the APC-led government in the state gets the most bloc votes from Alimosho Local Government at every election. It is also noteworthy that residents of Alimosho Local Government have also been long neglected in the development agenda of the state; hence, some relief must be brought to the multitudes from that axis that ply Ikotun-Ejigbo-Isolo traffic laden routes daily given the loss of productive man hour they lose. This has necessitated the construction of the bridge leading to Ajao Estate. However, must the government provide relief to one side and hardship to another in the course of infrastructural development? This is the politics of infrastructure development the state government is finding difficult to balance in the face of 2015 election as it approaches.

We call on the governor to spare an urgent thought on this development and provide lasting solution to restore the serenity and glory of Ajao Estate while simultaneously providing alternative channels to ease traffic on the other side of Ejigbo. Tolling the link road, say, at N500 for any private vehicle plying the road will reduce the honking craziness of motorists and bring some sanity to the road while at the same time providing revenue for the maintenance of the road. This will be a welcome development to both sides enjoying the development.

Northern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Accuse President Jonathan of Stockpiling Arms Ahead Of 2015

Rising from their meeting in Kaduna with the Northern Traditional Rulers Council in Kaduna State, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) today raised the alarm that the President Goodluck Jonathan-led government is gathering arms for unknown motives ahead of the 2015 elections.
NEF also accused Jonathan of nursing a clandestine agenda in choosing to convoke a national conference.  Their spokesman, Solomon Darlong told the Hausa Service of the Voice of America monitored by SaharaReporters in Abuja that they support only a Sovereign National Conference whose outcome will uphold and determine the corporate existence of Nigeria.
Darlong also said that the North is being short-changed and victimized in the federal civil service as it accounts for only16 percent of the total workforce.
"We are against injustice meted out against us, we are against divisive politics being played to divide Northerners so as to win elections. We are also against relocation of sophisticated weapons to Southern parts of the country,” he said.
"We will also not tolerate division in religion and ethnicity. And we want the national conference to hold after 2015 elections but if they said it must be, then we want sovereign conference whose recommendations will bind on the country."
The traditional rulers began their consultations behind closed doors yesterday under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.  He was quoted as saying that the region must be frank and sincere in handling the problems confronting it.
The agenda of the meeting included how to achieve violence-free elections in 2015, the ethno-religious crisis ravaging the region and other pressing issues.
It would be recalled that in his famous December 2, 2013, letter to President Jonathan, former President Olusegun Obasanjo made the same disturbing claim as the Northern traditional rulers.
“Allegation of keeping over 1000 people on political watch list rather than criminal or security watch list and training snipers and other armed personnel secretly and clandestinely acquiring weapons to match for political purposes like Abacha and training them where Abacha trained his own killers, if it is true, it cannot augur well for the initiator, the government and the people of Nigeria,” he wrote.

Neymar Suffers Ankle Injury That May Rule Him Out Of World Cup

Save me from disgrace, Tukur begs Jonathan

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Bamanga Tukur stepped up yesterday his battle to keep his job.
He reportedly rushed down to the Presidential Villa to beg President Goodluck Jonathan to save him from being disgraced out of office.
He assured the President repeatedly that he would reconcile with the aggrieved members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other leaders of the party, it was learnt.
The President reportedly met with Board of Trustees Chairman Chief Tony Anenih and other leaders on Tukur’s offer.
There were strong indications that the President and members of the National Caucus might give Tukur a second chance.
Investigation by our correspondent revealed that upon reaching the Presidential Villa, a distraught Tukur attempted to kneel down for the President, but it was resisted by Jonathan.
The President said he would not allow Tukur to kneel down for him because he has respect for old age.
It was learnt that Tukur then opened up on why he should not be forced out of office.
A source from the Northeast said: “Tukur repeatedly said, ‘Mr. President, I beg you in the name of God, do not disgrace me out of office.’
“He repeated how loyal he had been to the President and why his reform programmes was misunderstood by governors and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
“Tukur assured the President that he would make peace with all aggrieved governors, NWC members and leaders of the party.”
Responding to a question, the source said Tukur asked the President to allow the party to give him “some time” to reunite everyone in the party.
The source added: “At a point, Tukur held on to the President to ‘please help me beg all these people who are against me, I do not want to be disgraced. I think there is an age gap; these people do not understand me.’ The development made the President emotional.”
The President, it was learnt, invited some leaders of the party to hear Tukur’s penitence.
Jonathan was said to have told Tukur: “I have no problem with you as long as you keep the party united and very strong. I will discuss with others. Go and reconcile with governors and NWC members. Make sure you truly work for peace in the party.”
The President later met with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, a former President of the Senate, Chief Ken Nnamani, a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George, a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, and a former National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Mohammed Haliru Bello, among others.
It was gathered that all the leaders supported giving a ‘second chance’ to Tukur to restore peace to the party.
The National Caucus of the party was in session last night to consider the President’s opinion on Tukur.
As at the time of filing this report, Tukur was said to be explaining to the National Caucus his side of the crisis and why he should not vacate the office into which he was validly elected.
Another source said: “Tukur is not giving up at all; he is insisting that if he has to go, it must be constitutionally done. He wants the National Convention to determine his fate.
“Tukur has always been asking leaders of the party to state the basis for his resignation. As a matter of fact, Tukur raised a poser for one of the PDP leaders: ‘Have I stolen any money? What did I do wrong? Why should I be removed?’ The PDP National Chairman cannot understand why everybody is against him.
“It was in the context of the unclear nature of allegations against him that Tukur spoke with reporters on the telephone.”
But a member of the NWC said: “We raised some questions last Thursday which Tukur could not answer. Let him revisit these posers and answer them.
“Our position is that Tukur must step aside or else PDP should take the risk and forget winning the 2015 poll.”
The allegations are:
•holding party /NWC meetings at Tukur’s residence instead of PDP Secretariat;
•running a parallel NWC, leaving Tukur to take decisions on critical party matters with only his aides;
•mass defection from PDP due to lack of confidence in Tukur;
•governors, National Assembly members, BOT, NEC unhappy with Tukur;
•no concrete achievements since Tukur took over in the last two years. He could not even complete the ongoing National Secretariat of the party;
•globetrotting without any result to enhance the electoral fortunes of the party; and
•lack of access to Tukur, sometimes for two weeks.
Meanwhile, a pressure group in the party, the PDP Patriots, insisted yesterday that NEC could remove Tukur.
The group also said Tukur had forgotten that he is answerable to the PDP National Executive Committee, which is constitutionally empowered to act on behalf of the National Convention, which produced him.
In a pre-NEC meeting document circulated in Abuja, the group asked PDP NEC to examine dispassionately the implications of the continued retention of Prof. Olawale Oladipo in office as the party’s National Secretary vis-a-vis the ruling of the Court of Appeal
The document reads in part: “We also commend the NWC members for coming out of their shells after being timid for a long time to take a stand in the current crises plaguing the PDP. If they did not, they probably could have faced charges of complicity, since the PDP constitution gives two-thirds of NWC members (eight out of 12) the right to take decisions, should the national chairman fail to act, and such decisions would be binding.
“They could go a step further by reversing all the decisions forced down their throats by the national chairman and report same to NEC. All such unilateral decisions made by Tukur, including serial violation of PDP constitution, should be properly compiled by the ‘’G-9’’ NWC members headed by the Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus and brought before the NEC meeting for endorsement of reversal, so that PDP could be saved from the agony of shooting itself on the foot, as these could be counted against all NWC members at the time of reckoning.’’
“If his exit is largely seen as the solution to the myriad of problems he created for the PDP, Bamanga Tukur should gladly accept to step aside in the overall interest of the party, instead of threatening President Goodluck Jonathan, who made him the national chairman and other organs of the PDP with contempt of court, as if he is the only individual who could ensure that Jonathan is returned to office in 2015. It leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
“It is interesting that Tukur has forgotten that he is answerable to the PDP National Executive Committee, which is constitutionally empowered to act on behalf of the National Convention of the party which produced him.
“Tukur, as an individual, does not constitute the National Working Committee, or the National Executive Committee. Any suit filed on behalf of the PDP by the NWC can also be withdrawn by two-thirds majority of the NWC of the PDP, which also has the right to discontinue any suit filed before any court of law by the party.
“Afterall, Tukur in the same manner unilaterally directed that the appeal filed by the PDP for stay of execution of the judgement of the Federal High Court that removed Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and national officers of the party be withdrawn by Chief Joe Gadzama, SAN, at both the Federal High Court, Abuja, and the Court of Appeal, Lagos Judicial Division, to prevent the three South-west zonal officers from returning to office. “Unfortunately, Tukur disrespected the pronouncement of the Court of Appeal, and chose to respect the ruling of a Federal High Court, an action which forms part of several illegal decisions unilaterally taken by Tukur, which have opened the PDP to ridicule. Never again must stakeholders allow PDP to be managed by a dictator who cannot be trusted to function as a team player.
“We wish all our leaders and stakeholders well and pray that the Creator may give them the wisdom to put things right without fail, at their meetings this week.”
The group urged NEC to also look at the way the National Secretary of the party emerged.
It added: “Accordingly, the position paper states that Oladipo’s continued occupation of the position of PDP national secretary may portend grave danger for the party, as decisions reached at any PDP forum, conveying the signature or participation of Oladipo as national secretary, may be successfully challenged in court in future; and such decisions may be invalidated on account of the illegality surrounding Oladipo’s appointment and tenure as national secretary of the PDP.
“Whoever occupies the position of national secretary of a political party is the custodian of the seal of the organisation; and is like the conscience of the party, who must be free from any form of entanglements that could cause legal or moral problems for the PDP.”
